As Sheriff, Cambo has implemented proven initiatives that prevent crime, strengthen public safety, increase law enforcement visibility in our communities, and provide deputies with the resources they need to serve effectively. Highlights include:

 

More Than $5 Million Secured for Public Safety

Through strong partnerships with state and federal leaders, Sheriff Streater has secured:

• More than $4 million in state and federal funding.

• More than $1 million in annual grant funding to support public safety initiatives and reduce the burden on local taxpayers.

 

Strengthened Investigative Capabilities

To better protect our community and solve crimes more efficiently, the Sheriff's Office has:

• Expanded investigative resources by adding personnel dedicated to internet crimes against children, narcotics investigations, and the DEA Task Force.

• Added new investigator to strengthen the Criminal Investigations Division.

• Invested in advanced technology, including facial recognition software, cellphone extraction tools, digital forensic analysis software, crime mapping technology, and state-of-the-art drones.

• Added 2 FAA-certified drone pilots and 2 additional investigators in advanced cellphone data extraction. 

 

Improved Officer Safety

Keeping deputies safe allows them to better protect our communities. Under Sheriff Streater's leadership, the Sheriff's Office has:

• Increased the number of patrol deputies by four, providing greater law enforcement presence throughout the county.

• Secured funding to provide all first responders with access to the Palmetto 800 statewide radio system, improving communication, eliminating dead zones, and enhancing coordination during emergencies.

• Obtained an armored rescue vehicle through a federal surplus program at no cost to county taxpayers for use during active shooter incidents and other high-risk situations.

• Equipped all patrol vehicles with GPS technology to improve officer safety and response times.

• Added laser sights to department-issued firearms to improve officer safety and accuracy.

 

Strengthened School Safety

Working closely with the Chesterfield County School District, Sheriff Streater has expanded school safety efforts to better protect students, teachers, and staff.

• Increased the number and responsibilities of School Resource Officers (SROs).

• Secured funding for a floating SRO and dedicated supervisor to ensure schools remain protected even when a regular SRO is unavailable.

• Developed an efficient staffing plan that utilizes SROs for public safety assignments when school is not in session.

• Established an annual SRO Summer Camp, giving young people positive opportunities to interact with law enforcement.

• Expanded specialized training for deputies in school safety and active shooter response.

 

Enhanced Detention Center Safety

Significant improvements have strengthened security and inmate care, including:

• Installed a state-of-the-art full-body scanner to prevent contraband from entering the facility.

• Added an automated CPR device to improve emergency medical response.

• Upgraded the detention center's security camera system.

• Purchased an updated inmate transport vehicle with no county tax dollars.

 

Serving Beyond Law Enforcement

Sheriff Streater believes strong communities are built through strong relationships. Under his leadership, the Sheriff's Office has continued its tradition of community involvement by:

• Participation in school events, community festivals, and outreach programs throughout the county.

• Partnered with Representative Richie Yow to host the annual Veterans Dinner honoring those who served our country.

 

Additional Accomplishments

• Increased professionalism throughout the department by expanding advanced leadership and specialized training opportunities for deputies, including FBI supervisory training.

• Restarted the inmate work program reducing taxpayer costs while keeping our community clean with litter cleanup.

• Targeted violent crime by creating a Crime Suppression Unit focusing on high crime areas.

• Strengthened partnerships with local, state, and federal agencies to improve public safety.

• Established quarterly meetings with every police chief in Chesterfield County to improve communication, coordination, and regional law enforcement cooperation.
