Cambo’s Law Enforcement Career

Since beginning his career as a road deputy with the Chesterfield County Sheriff's Department, Cambo has served in law enforcement agencies across South Carolina. Throughout his career, he has:

Investigated major criminal cases, including vice, homicide, public corruption, and officer-involved shootings.

Trained and served in specialized roles as a medic, EMT, and sniper.

Led Governor Beasley's Security Detail, directing officers from SLED, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, and the South Carolina Department of Public Safety. He also coordinated with law enforcement agencies across the United States and internationally to plan and provide security for the Governor, visiting dignitaries, and other VIP events.

Served on specialized teams, including SLED's SWAT Team, Bloodhound Tracking Team, Weapons of Mass Destruction Team, and Air Rescue Team.

Earned certification through the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy to train officers statewide in defensive tactics, firearms, defensive driving, and TASER instruction.

Served in leadership positions as Chief Investigator, Lieutenant, Captain, and Chief Deputy with multiple agencies, including the Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office, Darlington County Sheriff's Office, and the University of South Carolina Division of Law Enforcement and Safety.

Assisted prosecutors and law enforcement agencies in preparing major criminal cases for trial.

Worked with law enforcement and other first responders throughout the Pee Dee and across South Carolina to plan and coordinate security for numerous events at Darlington Raceway.

Provided critical peer support through the South Carolina Law Enforcement Assistance Program to first responders following the September 11 terrorist attacks, the Virginia Tech tragedy, and other critical incidents across South Carolina.

Cambo has earned statewide recognition for his professionalism and leadership:

Qualified as an expert witness in both federal and state courts in the areas of law enforcement tactics and use of force.

Named Alcohol Beverage Control Commission State Agent of the Year (1984) and received the Commission's Merit Award (1986).

Selected by the Chief of SLED to serve as Interim Chief of Police for the Town of Pageland (1988).

Chosen by the South Carolina National Guard to attend the Non-Commissioned Officer School (1985).

Awarded the Order of the Palmetto by Governor Beasley in 1999, South Carolina's highest civilian honor.

Graduated from the FBI National Academy’s 220th Session after being nominated to attend one of the world's premier leadership programs for law enforcement professionals.

Recognized by the South Carolina House of Representatives for Outstanding Service to the State of South Carolina (2005).

Committed to lifelong learning, Cambo has continually expanded his knowledge through advanced education, specialized assignments, and leadership training. He is a graduate of Midlands Technical College, the Carolina Command College, and the FBI National Academy.
